Pension awareness week is a five day event held each year that aims to promote the importance of pensions and provide help and advice through videos and live events.
This year’s pension awareness week is from 15 to 19 September. You can find out more about the pension awareness campaign by visiting the www.pensionawarenessday.com website.
Also kicking off in September is the Pension Attention campaign. Pension Attention runs for a couple of months each year to encourage everyone to think about their pension, whether that’s checking for lost pension, or planning for the future you want. You can find out more about Pension Attention by visiting the pensionattention.co.uk website.
Here at GMPF, we’ll also be getting involved by highlighting some of our resources which are specific to your GMPF pension. We’ll also be posting information on our X (formerly Twitter) and LinkedIn pages.
We’ll add a new highlight every day this week to help you learn more about pensions.
- Day one – Overview of the LGPS
- Day two – Tracing lost pensions and checking on your pension
- Day three – Planning for retirement
- Day four – Nominations and topping up your pension
- Day five – Pension scams

Your benefits are built up under the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). For service from April 2014 onwards each year of membership earns you 1/49th of your pensionable pay, revalued each April in line with the cost of living. Pre-2014 service is calculated separately on your final salary.
Log in to My Pension to view your latest Annual Benefit Statement, run retirement projections and update your nominated beneficiaries. New users can register with their National Insurance number and a recent payslip.
