We are the largest LGPS fund and the eleventh biggest defined benefit pension fund in the UK.

Who we are?

Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) is one of the largest local government pension funds in the UK. We manage and administer pension benefits on behalf of members, employers, and beneficiaries across Greater Manchester. We provide secure, long-term pension benefits for our members by: 

  • Administering the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

  • Investing responsibly to protect long-term value

  • Managing contributions, benefits, and payments

  • Supporting members throughout their pension journey

How GMPF is run?

Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) administers the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for employers and members across Greater Manchester. 

  • Administered Locally : GMPF is managed by a Pensions Committee, supported by a Local Pension Board, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. Learn More
  • Data Protection : The Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council is the ‘data controller’ under the law and holds all the data. Learn More
  • Investments : Most of our assets are invested through appointed external investment managers, operating within guidelines set by our panel. Learn More

Approach to Climate Change

Climate change poses significant risks to global economies and long-term investment stability. Limiting global warming to 1.5°C, as set out in the Paris Agreement, requires rapid reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and a transition to renewable energy. As a long-term investor, GMPF supports this transition by investing in renewable and climate-focused companies, using shareholder influence to encourage decarbonisation, and reallocating capital toward lower-carbon investments. This approach aims to deliver sustainable returns while aligning all investments with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Learn More
