Estimate requests
When requesting estimates for a member’s standard pension and lump sum, in addition to the strain cost, please get the member’s consent and complete the member declaration section of the estimate request form. Without this, we will only provide the strain cost.
Our normal turnaround time is 15 working days, but during busy times this may increase. If the estimate is for normal, voluntary retirement, you may wish to direct the member to My Pension where they will be able to run the estimate for themselves
You should not send us a P71 form if you only require an estimate.
Please read all the information below and complete the form fully.
Information will only be supplied to an authorised signatory in order to request an estimate for a Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) member.
Estimates will only be sent by email to you and not directly to the member.
We will contact you if there is a problem with the information you have provided.
The email we send will state the amount of pension, retirement tax free lump sum and strain cost (provided you have the member’s consent).
Please ensure all mandatory fields are completed.
Please ensure that the details you provide, particularly the pay fields, date of leaving and the section of the scheme (main section or 50/50 section) the member is in are accurate.
For ill health retirements please only request an estimate once you know which tier of ill health has been determined.
The date of leaving should be within six months of the current date.
We will not discuss strain costs with the member. If you share this information, you must be prepared to answer any questions the member may have relating to it.
If there is a strain cost and you wish to proceed with the retirement, you may wish to speak to our Accountancy team about settlement of this cost.
If you require more than one estimate (and where the member has multiple records), please submit a request for each estimate.
Bulk estimates can be produced for a redundancy or efficiency exercise where all estimates are for the same date. Requests must be for a minimum of ten members. For bulk estimates we only supply the strain costs, not the members’ pension or lump sum. For further information contact our Employer Support team.

- If you give no indication about reduction waivers or ‘switching back on’ 85 rule protections, we will assume all reductions apply.
- Protections may also apply for members retiring on ill health grounds, if they have continuous membership and were age 45 or over on the 1 April 2008 (provided their date of birth is on or before 1 April 1963). We will ask you for changes in hours for these members since the last amendment in Altair.
