| Abbreviation | Term | Meaning |

| AAL | Additional adoption leave (paid or unpaid) | Lasts for 26 weeks and starts on the first day after ordinary adoption leave |
| AML | Additional maternity leave (paid or unpaid) | Lasts for 26 weeks and starts on the first day after paid ordinary maternity leave |
| APC | Additional pension contributions | These contributions can be made to cover unpaid leave/absence due to industrial action or purchase additional pension. Can be paid by the employer or the employee |
| APL | Additional paternity leave (paid or unpaid) | Begins after ordinary paternity leave |
| APP | Assumed pensionable pay | This is an assumed amount of pay where the employee is on reduced or no pay |
| AVC | Additional voluntary contributions | The contributions are paid to the Prudential. They also include death in service contributions |
| CAC | Cumulative additional employee's contributions | These can be additional pension contributions or additional voluntary contributions for end of year data |
| CARC | Cumulative additional employer's contributions | The total additional employer contributions for the scheme year (1 April – 31 March) for year end |
| CARE | Career average revalued earnings | Defined benefits are based on career average pay instead of final salary pay |
| CEC1 | Main section cumulative employee's contributions | The total employee's contributions in the main section for the scheme year (1 April - 31 March) for end of year data |
| CEC2 | 50/50 section cumulative employee's contributions | The total employee's contributions in the 50/50 section for the scheme year (1 April – 31 March) for end of year data |
| CPI | Consumer prices index | Inflation index – rate of pensions increase/revaluation rate |
| CPP1 | Main section cumulative pensionable pay | The total pensionable pay or assumed pensionable pay in the main section for the scheme year (1 April – 31 March) for end of year data |
| CPP2 | 50/50 section cumulative pensionable pay | The total pensionable pay or assumed pensionable pay in the 50/50 section for the scheme year (1 April – 31 March) for end of year data |
| CRA | Critical retirement age | The age when benefits are payable under the 2008 Scheme (protection of the 85 year rule) |
| CRC | Cumulative employer contributions | The total employer contributions in both sections for the scheme year (1 April - 31 March) for year end |
| EAVC | Employee additional voluntary contributions | The whole cost to the employee for non-life and life assurance (death in service), employee element of a shared cost AVC for life assurance, pension salary sacrifice or other for end of year data |
| EAVCL | Employee additional voluntary contributions (life assurance) | The whole cost is to the employee for additional voluntary contributions for end of year data – life assurance (death in service) |
| EAVCN | Employee additional voluntary contributions (non life assurance) | The whole cost is to the employee for additional voluntary contributions for end of year data – non life assurance |
| ESCAPC | Employee shared additional pension contributions | Part cost to the employee for the purchase of additional pension for end of year data |
