General Data Protection Regulation

General Data Protection Regulation

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force from 25 May 2018.

GMPF have a statutory obligation to administer the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), which means that we have a legal obligation to keep data that will enable us to pay pension benefits. The fact that GMPF determines the purposes for and the manner in which personal data is to be processed means that we are considered to be a data controller under GDPR.

To outline employers respective rights and obligations and to formally document GMPF’s position as a data controller, a Memorandum of Understanding between GMPF and employers has been drawn up.
