Governance Report 2025

I am writing to you as Chair of the GMPF Local Pension Board.

All public service pension schemes must have a Local Pension Board. Local Pension Boards play a pivotal role in ensuring a pension scheme’s governance and administration is as effective and efficient as possible. They ensure schemes comply with regulations and all other legislation relating to the management and administration of the Scheme and meet any requirements imposed by the Pensions Regulator.

In 2024, we issued a Governance Report to all GMPF’s employers to provide you with more information about our work and to highlight items that we believe you should be aware of in your employing authority role. We received a lot of positive feedback from employers about this report and so have decided to issue this report annually. Therefore, our report for 2024/25 is attached to this email. The main objective of this report is to assure you that GMPF’s governance arrangements are robust and effective, and that proper oversight and accountability are in place. The report includes information about GMPF’s performance, service improvements, and the support provided to you and your members. It also highlights some key learning points the Local Pension Board has identified when undertaking its work.
