Care Pay
Care Pay
Anyone who was an active member from 1 April 2014, or who has joined the Scheme since that date will build up CARE benefits.
We use CARE pay to calculate these benefits
CARE pay includes all payments in respect of a job, apart from those listed in the regulations as exclusions. It includes:
Payments in consideration of loss of future pensionable payments or benefits are no longer pensionable. A full definition of CARE pay is available on the LGPS website under section 20 of the Timeline LGPS Regulations 2013.
If a member leaves or retires part way through the Scheme year (1 April – 31 March), you need to provide the CARE pay from 1 April up to the date of leaving.
To work out the CARE pension that has been built up in the years before the date of leaving, we use the pay figures that you provided via the monthly data collection process. It is crucial that the pay figures you supply are accurate because it forms the basis of the member’s CARE pension and will not be revisited unless you tell us that it is incorrect.
If the member is part time, you need to provide the actual pay and not the full time equivalent.
If the member has been on pay reducing sick leave, or child related leave, you will need to include assumed pensionable pay (APP) for the relevant period.
