Alternative Work Partners

There are several alternative working patterns that a member may have.  

  • Part time

    Employees working fewer hours than full time. 

  • Variable time

    Employees whose contact states variable time for LGPS purposes.

  • Casual

     Employees on short, irregular contacts.

  • Term time

    Workls only during school or academic terms.

     

  • Average hours

     Part-time employees with variable hours. 

Calculating Pay Guide

  • Care Pay

    Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) is used to build pension benefits each Scheme year based on actual earnings. 

  • Community Payback Supervisors

    Their pensionable pay is calculated using specific regulatory guidance, which reflects how their hours and duties are structured. 

  • Final Salary Pay

    Used to calculate final salary benefits when a member leaves or retires and is based on a defined period, rather than annual earnings. 

  • National Pensionable Pay

    Used where a member has a reduction in contractual hours or pay, but their benefits need to be protected for pension purposes.

  • Assumed Pensionable Pay

    Used when a member is on pay-reducing sick leave or child-related leave.

Effect of Leap Year

Leaving employment during a leap year can affect how final salary pay is calculated, depending on your work pattern and service history. Members who leave on or after 29 February may need the extra day accounting for in their final salary pay period.
