Overseas pensioner verification

What are verification checks and why do they need to be done?

We regularly conduct out anti-fraud checks to ensure we're paying the correct amount of pension to the right people. If you live outside of the UK, we cannot automatically carry out some of these anti-fraud checks. Therefore, each year, we need you to complete an identity verification check to confirm your identity and that you're still receiving your pension. And if you live in the UK, we might also ask you to complete a check from time to time, too.

When do I need to complete the verification check by?

You’ll receive a notification from us either by email or by post when it’s time to complete the process.

You must complete your identity verification process by the deadline we set. If we do not hear from you, we may have to suspend your pension.

How do I complete my identity verification?

Please read through the options below and choose one. Then follow the instructions to complete your identity verification.

What if I can't access My Pension where I live?

In some countries, you will not be able to access My Pension due to restrictions. We have included a list of the affected countries. If this is the case for you, please choose one of the other options to complete your identity verification.

I can’t set up two-factor authentication when registering for My Pension. What should I do?

On 13 May 2026, we launched a new version of My Pension, designed to give you a clearer, and more secure experience. If you were previously registered, you’ll need to re-register to create a new account.

When you register, you’ll be asked to set up two-factor authentication using a mobile phone number.

For a small number of overseas users, this step may not complete successfully. This can depend on your location and if you use an international phone number. If you live in a country where we expect this to be an issue, we have emailed you with instructions on what to do. If you have not received the email, please contact our Customer Services team on 0161 301 7100.
